Nocturne from Quilt Obsession

One of the projects I started over the past year is Nocturne from Millefiori Quilts 3. I had fun going through fabrics looking for just the right one because, of course, I was going to be using the Inklingo Nocturne collection to do some fussy-cutting/printing.

This was the fabric I eventually chose.

Two project boxes are being used for this – one with just the pieces of the black background fabric.

And one with everything else plus the various threads I’m using for the project.

The blocks are quick to stitch. I surrounded four of them with the black ...

Lost in Translation from Wendy's Quilts and More

Apologies to all the Dutch quilters out there.

"Bont en Blauw" does not mean "Black and Blue", but rather multicoloured, which sounds so much nicer.  Google translate put me wrong on that one! But a number of you messaged me to let me know, so thank you.

As my quilt is only going to be three colours (red, white and blue), I'm going to have to think of another name anyway.

Some of you asked for more details about this sweet quilt.  I'm hand piecing it using the method shown in my hand piecing videos here.    But, there ...

Something new! from Wendy's Quilts and More

Yes, finally I have something new to report.

I've made a start on a pattern from Willyne Hammerstein's Millefiori Quilts Book 4.

The pattern is called "Bont en Blauw", which translates to English as "Black and Blue" - which is a bit unfortunate because that brings up disturbing images in most peoples minds.  So I'm going to come up with a different name for my happy little quilt.

There are only 2 shapes in the pattern, but there are lots of opportunities to play with colour and pattern.

When I want to plan a quilt, I just use ...

La Passacaglia - a trip down memory lane from Wendy's Quilts and More

This week I've been reminded about the fun I had making my la Passacaglia quilt.

Tula Pink did a little video earlier this week about her la Passacaglia quilt, and it got me thinking about mine again.  You can watch Tula's video about her quilt here:

https://www.facebook.com/tulapink/videos/309154120366478/

I still love my quilt, and I use it on our bed sometimes.  I also take it to show other quilters when I get invited to speak at other guilds.

It wasn't Tula Pink that inspired me to start my quilt, but rather two ...

Ballet with Kaffe - How I attached the borders from Wendy's Quilts and More

My quilt top is finished!! And I love it.

I always knew that I wanted to include my inspiration fabric somewhere in my Ballet with Kaffe quilt.

I had intended to use it for the borders, but then I realised that the pattern repeat was quite obvious, and the repeating motifs would stand out on the borders.  So I decided to piece my borders and allowed snippets of my inspiration fabric to peek through.

I knew that Willyne Hammerstein had pieced the borders on her Moncarapacho quilt, so I followed her method set out in Millefiori Quilts book 3.

Moncarapacho ...

And Yet More Fiesta! from Quilt Obsession

I am not even close to finishing the Fiesta top. I keep forgetting that even though I laid out the blocks and thought I had the block placement all figured out, I’ve been changing it as I go — so it’s not just a matter of sewing the blocks together now but moving them around and — well, just changing things on every row since the second one!

So all I’ve got are some more pics of a few of the blocks. First a pretty blue star block.

Some of the star blocks have a frame, so to speak ...

More Fiesta from Quilt Obsession

The colourful Fiesta blocks are the perfect antidote to the grey days of winter that we’ve had so many of this year. I have enough of the fabric left to use in some other project that calls for some wild and colourful fussy cut pieces.

Gold Star Block IMG_3205wtmk

The effects from fussy cutting/printing a fabric always is a bit of a surprise until the pieces are sewn together. The fabric I used to fussy cut/print for Fiesta has definitely been that – and then some. It was fun to see each block as I finished it.

Fiesta!!! from Quilt Obsession

This book arrived and I want to make almost every one of the quilts in it! So it’s a very good thing I got Dance of the Poinsettias done before the book arrived.

Millefiori Quilts 4 IMG_3196

The cover quilt is called Fiesta Gitana and I knew I had to make it the second I saw those skinny stars. An Inklingo Fiesta Gitana collection was released and I was off to the races.

Fiesta Box IMG_3144wtmk

In no time I had all the pieces printed, cut out and in a box that was just perfect for the Fiesta quilt.

And those skinny stars turned into some ...

Dance of the Poinsettias from Quilt Obsession

I know, I know — it has been an extremely long time since I blogged. I am going to give it yet another try and hope to post twice a week — at least at first. I’ve missed blogging and, given the fact that this is like a diary of my quilting, I know I’m going to look back and wonder what I was doing!

One thing I was doing was finishing Dance of the Poinsettias, my version of Can Can from Millefiori Quilts 3 made using the Inklingo Can Can collection. As it’s winter and the roof garden ...

Millefiori Quilts 4 from Wendy's Quilts and More

I'm so excited! I now have a copy of Millefiori Quilts 4 by Willyne Hammerstein.

Millefiori Quilts 4 is Willyne's latest book for Quiltmania and it contains another 19 amazing quilt patterns.

My Ballet with Kaffe quilt waiting to be hand quilted

As I've been good and finished the English Paper Piecing on my Ballet with Kaffe quilt from Book 2 (photo above), I rushed out and ordered some templates for two of the quilts in Book 4.

I chose "Send Flowers to Your Loved Ones" and ordered the hand piecing acrylic templates for it.  Because as ...

Ballet with Kaffe top is finished (and the Peacock Party) from Wendy's Quilts and More

I'm thrilled to say that I finished piecing my Ballet with Kaffe quilt on New Year's Day.

It still needs borders, but I was so happy to finally finish the English Paper Piecing. My inspiration fabric will certainly feature in the borders, and I do hope that I've got enough to use it as the backing too.

Inspiration fabric is on the right.

In the final few days I had to swap out some rosettes that I'd previously sewed in.  I hate doing that, but when the colours are wrong, they are just wrong and those ...

Ballet with Kaffe revisited (and the Peacock Party) from Wendy's Quilts and More

My poor Ballet with Kaffe quilt has been neglected for months.  Some many other tempting things have come along this year, so I put this one away and haven't done anything on it since February.

However, Quiltmania have just started advertising Willyne Hammerstein's fourth book, Millefiori Quilts 4 and that has spurred me into action.

Of course I want the new book, and I probably want to make quilts from it, so I really need to finish my Ballet with Kaffe from book 2. I've worked on it every night this week with no distractions.  That's ...
